Performance steps | 1. Hand hygiene is provided 2. The patient is informed about the procedure. 3. Prepare the necessary materials and bring them to the patient's room. 4. Identify the patient. 5. Hand hygiene is provided 6. Close curtains around the bed and close the door to the room in order to provide privacy 7. Give to semi-fowler position, in order for the catheter removed from the patient. 8. Drape the patient so that only the area around the catheter is exposed. 9. Put on gloves and before withdrawing the catheter, empty the urine in the bladder and record the amount. Remove gloves 10. Remove the leg strap, or other device used to secure the catheter to the patient’s thigh or abdomen 11. Put on gloves and insert the syringe into the balloon inflation port and then aspirate the entire amount of sterile water used to inflate the balloon. 12. Say the patient to take several slow deep breaths, before slowly and gently removing the catheter. 13. Withdraw the urinary catheter by slowly wrapping the catheter over the back of your hand or using the waterproof pad, hold the tip of the probe and pull it slowly and gently. 14. Change your gloves and clean the perineal site 15. Remove gloves. Assist the patient to a comfortable position. 16. Record the removal of the indwelling urinary catheter on the nurse form. |
