Continuous feeding ensures that the patient is fed 24 hours a day. In this case, an enteral feeding pump is used. With the help of a pump, you can ensure an accurate injection - ml/h. The feeding rate and the administered volume are increased gradually. During continuous feeding, it is necessary to rinse the nasogastric tube every 4 - 6 hours and determine the volume of gastric residues. During prolonged feeding, a 30-minute break should be taken every 4-6 hours.

Indications: an unconscious patient (for example, a patient on artificial lung ventilation); swallowing disorders; lack of appetite due to illness (eg, cancer, sepsis, HIV); obstruction of the upper respiratory tract or esophagus; psychological problems (such as anorexia); psychiatric problems (such as severe dementia).

Contraindications – shock, non-functioning digestive tract; bleeding from the gastrointestinal tract; acute abdominal clinical picture, etc.
